Data from Crimson Hexagon reveals that 42% of tweets discussing Promoted Tweets show concern that the Twitter advertisements will be no better than spam. Another 31% are reserving judgment on the platform until they read more about it or experience Promoted Tweets in search results for themselves.

On the flip side, more than a quarter of all tweets (27%) indicated confidence in Twitter's newly revealed business model, believing it to be a sensible solution to bringing ads into the Twittersphere.

The mixed opinion among Twitter users is to be expected. Most of us have yet to see Promoted Tweets in action, and even if brands opt to be as considerate as Virgin America is attempting to be, there is no guarantee that Promoted Tweets won't increasingly interfere with our everyday Twitter activities.

Perception is everything, so we're curious to see how Twitter combats the confusion. From the looks of it they still have a long way to go to convince Twitter users that the Promoted Tweets ad platform won't destroy the Twitter experience they've grown to appreciate.
