Google Calendar has launched a directory for public calendars, which are searchable and can be added to your own calendar view. Those that do not have their own Google Calendar can still view these public calendars as well.

While shared calendars were already available to be searched, the directory enhances search and encourages sharing options, better enabling brands to publicize events, and connect with users. The directory has specialty lists including "top picks" and "TV shows" with calendars for things like music events in L.A. from Eventful and tracking calendars for politicians like Barack Obama. Once you've added a public calendar for your own personal use, you can also set up pop up alerts and SMS reminders. The public, shared items are integrated with your own calendar in a color-coded manner. You can also add your own calendar to the directory by making it public.

Similar releases include Pageflakes Pagecasts and Netvibes Universes.
