Has the 2016 presidential campaign left you feeling terrified about the future of American politics? If so, take a break from that real-life horror story by watching The Purge's fictional one — it's almost as scary.

The trailer for the third installment of the horror franchise dropped Wednesday, and people are already starting to make comparisons between the characters in the fictional Purge land and, ahem, some of the U.S. presidential hopefuls.

The Purge: Election Year is Donald Trump's most aggressive campaign ad, by far.— Rex Huppke (@RexHuppke) February 10, 2016

@HomerWhite I saw that The Purge was trending and I thought Bernie Sanders got elected.
Nope, it's just the movie. #crisisaverted— K.D. Cormican (@kimberlyC74) February 10, 2016

don't vote for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton because they both look like they are from the purge— tal (@txlix_) February 7, 2016

From the trailer, we know the third film is set during a political campaign, and one of the candidates is running on a platform that promises to stop the Purge (aka the barbaric day in which everything -- even murder -- is legal).

"The soul of our country is at stake," says the candidate, who is played by Elizabeth Mitchell of Lost fame. "The Purge targets the poor and the innocent."

Predictably, purgers come to her house and try to kill her for speaking out against their national holiday. We'll have to wait until summer to find out if Mitchell's character lives, but we don't have to wait to glean a powerful message from the trailer: Politics can be a deadly, dangerous game.
