Magical multiple rainbows splash over New York

Editor's note: This post originally stated that the photograph showed a quadruple rainbow. While the veracity of the photo has been confirmed by multiple media outlets, it does not, in fact, show a quadruple rainbow. Rather, some of these rainbows are actually reflections off a water body located close to the photographer.

Light was bouncing off a bay and reflecting through water droplets multiple times, creating these "reflection rainbows." A true quadruple rainbow would have featured the third and fourth rainbows located on the opposite side of the sky, like bookends, as the AP reported. The headline and post have been updated to reflect this information.

Lucky Long Islander Amanda Curtis spotted this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime event on her morning commute, and thankfully stopped to take a quick photo so that the rest of us could share in her weather blessing.

Four rainbows, you guys. Four. That's twice what Double Rainbow guy was overwhelmed by. We're just glad Amanda could keep it together long enough to capture this moment.

There were some other great rainbow shots that New Yorkers posted Tuesday morning as well, but none that quite topped the one shared by Curtis.
