In the world of food hybrids, there are cronuts, ramen burgers, pizza cakes, cragels and now this: the ramen doughnut, affectionately nicknamed the "ramnut."

This creation comes to us from Josh Scherer of Culinary Bro-Down, whose cooking blog is known for creations such as the Flamin' Hot Cheetos burger and the spicy tuna corn dog.

Scherer said the recipe came to him while he was brainstorming a fresh take on a ramen-based food hybrid.

"Other food bloggers and recipe developers have done ramen burgers, ramen pizza, ramen lasagna, ramen tacos, but no one had done anything sweet before, so I figured I might as well go for it," he told Mashable. "It actually made sense in my mind, ramen itself has a totally neutral flavor, so it's going to take any shape and flavor profile you want it to."

This isn't Scherer's first attempt to fry ramen; in August, he created a noodle-based fry for a ramen poutine recipe. He attributes the frying method to Keizo Shimamoto, best known for his famous ramen burger.

The recipe features another curious addition: horchata. Scherer cooks his noodles in 64 ounces of the traditional beverage, often made with rice, sugar and warm spices. So, why horchata over other sugary drinks?

"When I come up with ideas, it's generally sitting around the TV shooting the sh*t with my roommates," he said. "I was running the idea past them when one asked, 'Well, how's it gonna taste sweet?' To which I half-jokingly responded, 'I don't know, we'll boil them in horchata or something.' And that half-joke turned into a recipe that's been disseminated to, I don't know, a hell of a lot of people at this point. I stand by the decision."
