Ranch dip: good for spicing up wings, dressing up carrots and now, stopping robbers in their tracks.

On Sunday afternoon, 32-year-old Jacob Jeremy Mercer walked into an 8 Till Late convenience store in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Mercer, dressed in a Darth Vader mask and Star Wars-themed sweatshirt, then tried to rob the clerk at gunpoint. Instead of handing over money to Mercer, the store clerk, who has chosen to remain anonymous, had a better idea.

He threw a bottle of ranch dip at his head.

The glass bottle dressing seems to have both scared and injured Mercer, who then fled the scene and drove away in his car. Police later tracked the alleged criminal to a home three blocks away, where he was staying with a friend.

Richard Ehrman, a witness at the scene, told ABC News affiliate WPLG that he wished he could have stopped the robbery himself, but was still impressed by the clerk’s heroism.

“He got caught. Paul busted him in the nose with a jar. That was killer. That was awesome,” he told the station.
