New Yorkers don't always have the best rep when it comes to possessing an overly friendly demeanor. But underneath their infamously gruff exteriors, city dwellers have a softer side -- one that could use a little coaxing out every now and then.

To do so, Mashable and ASUS enlisted the help of comedian and filmmaker Mark Malkoff in a campaign to perform random acts of kindness: Everything from helping street-goers hail a cab to assisting with tent construction -- even giving out head massages.
