All in all, the case has seven tools and it's only three millimeters thick.
The knives it comes with are a standard blade and a serrated blade, plus a flat head screwdriver and bottle opener (some pretty useful tools, although ReadyCase admits you probably have to go case-free if you take a plane). You can buy the case with an eight or 16 gigabyte USB thumb drive, and use it to make your phone prop-up like a picture frame. Take some cool picture by attaching one of the three lenses it comes with to the case's lens ring.
The creators of ReadyCase are hosting a crowd-funding effort on Indiegogo, which is a Kickstarter competitor.
So far the site's helped the company raise more than $79,000 of their $15,000 goal with two weeks remaining. For a $40 pledge to the company, you'll get a case with an eight gigabyte USB drive. But the better deal seems to be the $50 one. For $50 you can get the case with the 16 gigabyte thumb drive plus three attachable lenses for your phone's camera.
As with many crowd-funding campaigns, prices go up once the products hit retail shelves. The ReadyCase site says it's slated to be shipped out in February 2013. The case will be available in black or silver.
Don't worry about the ReadyCase adding too much bulk to your iPhone. If you have the iPhone 5, with the case your phone will be just slightly thicker than the iPhone 4. The case is also for the iPhone 4s/4. Whichever phone you have, the makers of ReadyCase say it'll still fit in your pocket with the case.
ReadyCase is made from "aerospace grade composite materials." And although those sound heavy-duty, your phone is not immune from scratches -- there's an opening in the back exposing your phone.
But for the adventurer on-the-go type, or perhaps someone who likes to be prepared for any situation, the ReadyCase is quite handy.
