The independent film market has been looking to the Internet for networking and distribution opportunities for some time, so there's no shortage of sites out there that are created in order to appeal to tis crowd. Several of the larger video-sharing networks have also begun delving into indie-related activities such as film festivals in an effort to target the market in the physical sense, while also incorporating more value-added features into their own websites.
So at this point in the game, it's more important for film-related networks to focus on the networking and career-launching opportunities that they offer with differentiating factors and tangible (i.e. monetary) results. ReelConnect is the latest to launch a social network for those involved in the film industry, and it offers much of what you'd expect from such a network: information on events and festivals, profiles, film distribution, groups, etc.

Where ReelConnect attempts to be a little different is in how it links users with each other, whether around a film they worked on together, or any other way. This IMDB approach to the wider range of individuals involved in every aspect of creating a film is an approach I find could be very helpful, not only from a networking appeal, but in research that can be used towards stats for other networks and projects related to the film industry.
