While we're all waiting for smart refrigerators to become the norm, marketers are rushing in with some cool stopgap solutions.
A pizzeria in Dubai offered one such solution earlier this year, a web-connected refrigerator magnet that let consumers order a pizza by pressing a button. Now, Evian in France has introduced SmartDrop, another web-enabled 4-inch magnet that lets you schedule deliveries of the bottled water.
The brand is in the process of rolling out SmartDrop and plans to offer a smartphone app that does the same thing. Why the focus on delivery? Frederic Guichard, marketing director at Danone Waters France, told Ad Age that SmartDrop was inspired by research that found that carrying heavy bottles home was a major barrier to consumption.
