TV renewals are a special beast this year compared to previous ones.
Most notably, networks started handing out the good news to some shows months ago.
In January, for example, The CW handed out renewals to eight of its series, in hopes of giving the creators enough time to craft the best possible finales -- a respectable move.
About a month later, NBC handed out its own round of renewals to the MVPs of its procedural slate. Again, respect.
And that's not even mentioning the spot renewals handed out to breakout freshman hits. Looking at you, Empire, Last Man on Earth and NCIS: New Orleans.
That brings us to the time of year when this kind of news typically breaks.
So far, ABC was the first to hand out a big dump of (mostly) good news, announcing on Thursday night the renewal of more than 20 shows, including some pleasant surprises. (Congrats, Galavant and Agent Carter.)
