Republic Wireless, the budget carrier that offers full-data plans for as low as $25 a month, will begin offering the second-generation Moto X next month for $399, without a contract.

The company currently sells the original Moto X for $299, the Moto G for $149 and the Moto E for $99 -- also sans contract. The new Moto X typically sells for $99 with a two-year contract from AT&T or Verizon or for $499 unlocked, so the Republic plan saves you $100. The average U.S. monthly phone bill among the top four carriers is around $138, according to Cowan & Co.

Released in October, the new Moto X sports a larger screen (5.2 inches versus the original 4.7 inches) and shoots 4K video. Unfortunately, as Mashable Tech Editor Pete Pachal noted in a review, it also has pretty paltry battery life.
