Apple fans can finally reserve their Apple Watch online and pick it up in store.

Because of the beauty of the international date line, this new feature is launching first in Australia but will roll out globally on Wednesday, June 17.

Before the Apple Watch's April 24 launch day in nine countries, including Australia, Canada and the U.S., Apple only allowed people to order the smartwatch online and wait for the delivery man to knock at the door.

Until now, it hasn't been possible to walk into a store and pick one up, as the original stock was reserved to fulfil what was reportedly more than 1 million pre-orders.

With this new service, customers can choose their watch model and preferred band online. If it's available, they can then make a reservation to pick it up in-person at any of Apple's 21 Australian retail stores, and internationally as the date ticks over.

At its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier in June, Apple announced a new operating system for the watch, watchOS 2.

With this upgrade, Apple will allow outside app developers to access the watch's internal functions. Third-party apps will be able to customise widgets and use the watch's Taptic Engine -- which delivers light tap notifications -- where previously they had to rely on a Bluetooth-connected iPhone for functionality.

The free update will be available in the Australian spring.
