Reuters Labs Launches Search People in Video Feature

News giant Reuters has launched a new video search product that uses facial recognition technology to find specific people within videos. A search on the site for a prominent public figure such as Hillary Clinton provides a list of videos with details on precisely where in the video the person appears.

Additionally, the video player Reuters has employed includes a list of all people featured in the video. In the example below, you can skip to portions of the video that include other politicians such as Barack Obama, Fred Thompson, and Mitt Romney, among others. Advanced search options allow you to filter results by date or search for videos only on a specific Reuters channel.

The video search is powered by Viewdle, whose technology works by attempting to identify people in every frame of a video.
