British actor Richard Attenborough died on Sunday sometime during the afternoon; his son confirmed the death with the Associated Press. He was 90 years old.
Attenborough's family is expected to make a full statement about his death on Monday.

The legendary actor and director was best known for his roles in Jurassic Park, The Great Escapeand as Santa Claus in Miracle on 34th Street, as well as for directing the Oscar-winning film Gandhi in 1983.
Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted about the death of the actor.

Attenborough was living in a nursing home for several years, the BBC reports, adding that he has been confined to a wheelchair in recent years, following a fall down the stairs six years ago.
The actor was knighted in 1976, dubbing him Lord Attenborough. In addition to his two Oscars, Attenborough has also been awarded four BAFTAs and four Golden Globes.
