Rihanna transformed the Saturday Night Live stage -- typically designed as a train station -- into a green screen experience that looked like an ever-changing animated desktop screensaver.
For Rihanna's performance of "Diamonds," the green screen and even the band members' T-shirts lit up with visual effects. Like clockwork, viewers quickly reacted to the unusual artistic display on Twitter:
Really cool of Rihanna to perform in front of a Windows 98 screensaver. #SNL— Jonah Grant (@jonahgrant) November 11, 2012
Umm... @rihanna's green-screen #SNL performance freaking me out a bit. Can't imagine how stoned viewers are dealing right now. #WallsMelting— Corey Clayton (@CoreyClayton) November 11, 2012
Go on, Rihanna, turning #SNL into your own public access channel.— Omar L. Gallaga (@omarg) November 11, 2012
So everybody is going to use PhotoBooth to recreate Rihanna's #SNL performance, correct? Correct.— Aaron Edwards (@aaronmedwards) November 11, 2012
What is this low budget green screen @rihanna. #snl— T. Kyle MacMahon (@tkylemac) November 11, 2012

Aside from her SNL performances of "Stay" (below) and "Diamonds," a song that topped singles charts on iTunes in 27 countries when it debuted in October, Rihanna has had a busy week.
Rihanna performed at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Wednesday (it airs Dec. 4 on CBS), and she participated in a Facebook Live chat Thursday to talk about having more than 62 million Likes on her Facebook page and her forthcoming seventh studio album, Unapologetic.
"Diamonds" is Rihanna's 23rd top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100.
