Everyone, drop what you're doing -- and prepare to be shocked.

Earlier this week, Rihanna donned a pair of Ugg boots. Granted, she was at the airport, so some level of comfort is expected. But it's still surprising to see a singer known for her edgy style wearing a pair of dowdy shoes that were trendy 15-plus years ago.

Plus, Riri has been known to poke fun at the shoes more than once — feigning dislike when she spotted Uggs in her dressing room and "at the club."

Did I just spot an UGG in the club???? It's 80 degrees http://t.co/sWdwMQe5

Hypocrisy aside, we have to ask the question on everyone's minds: Does this mean one of 2000's hottest trends is making a comeback — 16 years later?

As much as we love/hate the idea of the furry footwear coming back into fashion discourse, it's worth pointing out that "Are Uggs back in??" seems to be a perennial question. Around this time last year ,Vogue UK tried to make a case for the sheepskin boots, and Fashionsy made a push for their revival in 2013 -- both to no avail.

While the fashion set hasn't exactly embraced the trend, many Ugg lovers are die-hard fans regardless of what others say.

Cold rainy day and of course in my #uggs don't care how ugly people think they are they so damn comfy! These are old and it's time for a new pair. So chestnut or black?? #iloveuggs #comfy #idontwearsockswithuggs #theyfeellikeslippers

Sure, Vogue and Fashionsy didn't have Rihanna lending credibility to their prophecies -- but we suspect this time won't be any different. Don't get your hopes up, Ugg lovers. Then again, we're sure the topic will arise for debate yet again in 2017.
