RIM Reports Huge Drop in Sales, Announces Layoffs
Canadian BlackBerry maker Research in Motion has reported an abysmal Q1, with a 43% drop in sales on the previous quarter and a delay of its upcoming BlackBerry 10 smartphone line, which will not arrive until 2013.
Furthermore, the company has announced it would cut 5,000 jobs. Even so, RIM expects to report an operating loss in the fiscal Q2 as well.
Google Launches Google Compute Engine
Google has launched Google Compute Engine, an infrastructure-as-a-service product that lets users run Linux Virtual Machines on the same infrastructure that powers Google. More info on this service, as well as other Google cloud services is available here.
Foursquare Launches Connected Apps Platform
Foursquare has launched a developer preview of its new Connected Apps Platform, which lets app developers connect with the Foursquare app. For users, this means that you could check into a restaurant and have an app recommend a good dish, or check into a cinema and immediately get an overview of upcoming movies.
