It's the end of an era.

Markwins International, a California-based cosmetics company, which owns brands like Wet N Wild and Physicians Formula, is acquiring Bonne Bell and Lip Smacker, the two companies announced.

As a result, Bonne Bell will soon be "permanently laying off" most of its employees and closing down its factory, according to a report on Cleveland.com.

However, it appears the Lip Smacker line will continue under its new ownership, according to statement from Markwins, though it's not clear if the company plans to make any changes to the brand.

Bonne Bell was founded in 1927 by traveling salesman J. G. Belle. Lip Smacker, created in 1973, was the world's first flavored lip gloss, according to the company. It quickly became popular among young girls and the line grew to include dozens of flavors.
