Yahoo is set to make a major acquisition: the college sports network Rivals.com may reach up to $100 million, says PaidContent. One exec, meanwhile, says that $50-$75M is more reasonable. The site would become part of Yahoo sports.

Tennessee-based Rivals.com began in 2001 and employs around 300 people. It provides news and rankings for college football, basketball and baseball, along with multimedia features. The site took $75 million in venture capital during the dotcom days.
