Rob Ford just can't catch a break.

The scandal-plagued Toronto mayor tweeted out what should have been a harmless update on Saturday night reminding his followers to prepare their clocks and smoke alarms for daylight saving time.

Unfortunately, Ford made one small mistake: he told people to turn their clocks back rather than forward.

He tweeted: "Daylight Saving Time starts this evening, turn your clocks back and change batteries in smoke alarms."

The original tweet was up for roughly 30 minutes before it was deleted and replaced with one worded correctly. But that proved to be more than enough time for the Internet to descend on it:

It's forward you moron RT @TOMayorFord: Daylight Saving Time starts this evening, turn your clocks back and change batteries in smoke alarms— Mathew Ingram (@mathewi) March 9, 2014

Daylight Savings Time is confusing. Rob Ford will show up to work at 1pm on Monday, just to be safe.— Adam Goldenberg (@adamgoldenberg) March 9, 2014

Rob Ford has now flip flopped on Daylight Savings. I can no longer trust him on important issues like how much crack is too much. #topoli— Jordy Gold (@JordyGold) March 9, 2014

Oh man, you know it's bad when Rob Ford starts lying about Daylight Savings Time.— Kevin Menzel (@kevinmenzel) March 9, 2014

Note to all those Canadians using the plural, "savings" -- the singular form is generally considered correct, even in Canada. Who's got egg on their faces now?

In any case, as one user pointed out, Ford's gaffe ranks pretty low for a mayor who has admitted to smoking crack and lying about it, and was then later videotaped drunk in public.

Geez, guys. Of all the things Rob Ford has done, the outcry over daylight savings time is a bit much. Chill out. #TOpoli #Toronto— Matt Hopkins (@RealMattHopkins) March 9, 2014
