Now, just shy of its two month public anniversary, Robo.to is launching something that is admittedly quite cool — TV Mode. TV Mode offers a unique way to watch the web react to trending topics in real-time. Offering up an aggregate view of user-created video status updates, or robo.tos, TV Mode suddenly makes the 4 second sound-free clips, and their accompanying text, seem relevant, entertaining, and contextual.
With TV Mode, Robo.to users can watch video status messages in personalized television channels by using hashtags, keywords, or usernames. The most interesting feature of TV Mode, however, is the ability to select trending topics (at the bottom of the page), and flip through user reactions around internet hot topics. Viewers can also like, rate, reply, and rehash to add their own tags.
Having Justin Timberlake as an investor in Particle, the company behind Robo.to, certainly doesn't hurt the Robo.to cause. After a public beta launch in August, the site was able to garner 20,000 user registrations in just 30 days, with over 100,000 robo.tos created. Plus, for the month of August, there were 350,000 site visitors and 1.5 million robo.to views.
