Will grunge legends Nirvana, the youngest act to be nominated, make it into the hall of fame on their first try? Will N.W.A.'s anti-authority appeal earn them a ticket into one of the primary authorities on music? While all 16 acts are certainly worthy of recognition, hall of fame's foundation only chooses between five and seven performers every year. Are the guitar solos of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" enough to propel them ahead of KISS, who did, after all, "Rock and Roll All Nite"? Are hit machines like Hall and Oates more worthy of a spot than artists with many volumes of work, such as Peter Gabriel and Cat Stevens?
