32 Memorable Songs by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees of 2014

The 2014 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced, and they make up a list that is guaranteed to cause debates in bars and living rooms.

Will grunge legends Nirvana, the youngest act to be nominated, make it into the hall of fame on their first try? Will N.W.A.'s anti-authority appeal earn them a ticket into one of the primary authorities on music? Will the funky, toe-tapping group Chic finally make the leap into musical infamy after eight unsuccessful nominations?

If your focus has been more on Miley Cyrus and Kanye West these days, here's a 32-song refresher on the new class of nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

While all 16 acts are certainly worthy of recognition, hall of fame's foundation only chooses between five and seven performers every year. Are the guitar solos of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" enough to propel them ahead of KISS, who did, after all, "Rock and Roll All Nite"? Are hit machines like Hall and Oates more worthy of a spot than artists with many volumes of work, such as Peter Gabriel and Cat Stevens?

If you "Can't Hardly Wait" until the induction ceremony in May 2014 to have these debates, let us know in the poll, below, which performers you think rock hardest (or funkiest, or swooniest).

Who Should Be Elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014?
