A few months ago, Netpickle, the creators of the RockYou slideshows that are popular on MySpace, were accused of intellectual property theft by their former employer. Iconix said the idea for RockYou was developed while the founders were working there, and if things turn ugly, Netpickle could be forced to turn over revenue. It would also be a problem for investors Sequoia, since that revenue would include proceeds from stock sales made after the "theft" - i.e. the investment. Yesterday a U.S. district court judge ruled against Sequoia, writes Valleywag, which is a slight concern. However, this is just a preliminary injunction, and the court case is scheduled for 2007.
