The Roku 4 and its 4K-streaming capabilities isn't the only new set-top box from Roku. Aimed at the low end, the Roku SE is a $50 set-top box that supports all of the content from the company's other set-top boxes and works with older TVs.

For Black Friday, Roku is knocking down the price to $25.

By older TVs, we mean TVs with composite-video connectors (the yellow, red and white jacks) and not HDMI, though there's also an HDMI port on the back.

Also missing on the Roku SE is an Ethernet port, which means the set-top box is a Wi-Fi only (802.11 a/g/b/n) affair. The Roku SE streams in full HD (1080p) resolution and comes with a remote control.

Looking at Roku's own comparison chart, it appears the Roku SE is basically a Roku 1. The only real difference the Roku 1 comes with the composite cables and the Roku SE doesn't. And, of course, the promotional price on Black Friday, which is less than the new Google Chromecast.

The Roku SE will be available for purchase from Roku.com, Amazon, Best Buy, Kohl's and Walmart. Roku's website advertises the Roku SE as "Limited time, Limited supply" suggesting the Roku SE won't be a product in the regular lineup once Black Friday passes.
