The band known as The Rolling Stones played their first gig at the Marquee Club in London on July 12, 1962, and released their first single, a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Come On,” a year later. As they grew in popularity, they were marketed as the bluesy, “bad boy” alternative to the squeaky clean Beatles. Their covers performed well on the charts, and they began supplementing them with original songs. In January 1965, their second UK LP, The Rolling Stones No. 2, hit the top of the album charts, and the next month the Mick Jagger/Keith Richards original song “The Last Time” became their first No. 1 original single. In 1965, they toured extensively, playing in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, England, the United States, Scotland and Scandinavia. While on tour in America in May, they recorded their single “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”On June 24, 1965, the band touched down in Oslo, Norway for two shows, where they were greeted by throngs of adoring fans.
