New 'Angry Birds' Shows on the Way as Toons.TV Passes 1 Billion Views

Rovio announced it would be expanding its animation lineup after its online-only cartoon portal surpassed 1 billion views since its launch in March.

Toons.TV is available through all Angry Birds games, smart TVs, video-on-demand services and 20 television channels around the world. To go along with the Angry Birds cartoon, Rovio will make a slew of new content available over the coming months.

In addition to the new season of Angry Birds Toons, two new Angry Birds-branded series are in the works: one focusing on the Bad Piggies and one focusing solely on the pink bird, Stella.

In addition, the channel will air an original cartoon by Stan Lee: Chakra the Invincible. The company is also strengthening its partnership with third parties; it will air series like National Geographic Kids' Amazing Animals and Fraggle Rock from the Jim Henson Company.

The channel already experimented in offering content from Sony Pictures. Five minutes of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 were made available on Toons.TV ahead of the movie's release on Friday.

“We are extremely excited about the positive reception from our fans with the original Angry Birds Toons series. Given the size of our reach and our massively engaged audience, it seemed only natural to extend beyond our own storytelling and partner with the best content creators to bring our fans even more fun entertainment,” said Mikael Hed, CEO, Rovio Entertainment at Advertising Week in New York.

Angry Birds will also make its big-screen debut in a movie produced by Sony Pictures, to be released in 2016.
