LONDON -- The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced the name for the new royal baby, two days after her birth.

Her name is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, according to Kensington Palace.

Charlotte was a frontrunner on a list of names because it is the female version of Charles; the names Elizabeth and Diana pay tribute to William's grandmother and his late mother. Elizabeth is also the middle name of Kate's mother.

The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth Saturday morning to the 8-pound, 3-ounce girl in a hospital in central London. The world got its first glimpses of her as she was taken home that evening, less than 12 hours after being born.

It was expected that they would wait a few more days before announcing the name as Queen Elizabeth has, according to reports, yet to visit the newborn. Prince George, who was born in July 2013, was named two days after he was born.

Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Michael, Carole and Pippa Middleton all visited the baby on Sunday, according to Kensington Palace. Prince Harry is currently in Australia.

The new baby girl is the fourth in line to the throne, behind Prince George who turns two on July 22. Prince Harry has been pushed back into fifth place, while Prince Andrew — the Queen’s second son and the new child's great uncle — is now sixth in line.
