Russell Brand's short-lived career as a political pundit is over, according to a video posted by the actor/comedian Friday morning.

After news broke that Britain's Conservative Party had won the majority in the country's Parliament, Brand emotionally announced he is stepping away from politics.

In Brand's YouTube show "The Trews," the actor delivered an emotionally charged explanation of his thoughts on the future of Britain with Prime Minister David Cameron at the helm. Ahead of the election, Brand had encouraged UK voters to vote Labour.

"Of course I don't vote, I think voting is pointless," said Brand. "I think for a moment I got caught up in the mad, thick of it."

"I'm just a comedian! I'm not even electable or nothing! I'm just a bloke with a laptop and a bit of mouth," said Brand.

In the clip, Brand also talks about the resignations of three party leaders earlier in the day and the forthcoming Conservative government. He then admits that he thought his interview with Miliband might have made a difference.

"When we interviewed Miliband we thought 'we can probably influence the outcome of an election' and now I think, 'you can't influence the outcome of an election,'" he admits, before saying he felt like a "de facto spokesman for people who don't vote" following his famous interview with Jeremy Paxman.

Brand then comments on the prospect of a Conservative government, insisting that "compassion" is vital in the next five years.

"The only currency we have is compassion and being nice to one another," he says. "We're going to have no shortage of meanness over the next five years. There's going to be meanness to the disabled, meanness to immigrants, meanness to the poor, so all we've got left is to be compassionate."
