LONDON – If there's one thing we can take away from this whole episode, it's that people get really, really hot under the collar when it comes to the Queen.

British comedian Russell Brand opened up the floodgates to angry Facebook commenters this week when he went on royal-themed rant, calling the Queen "a little old lady in a shiny hat – that we paid for" and posting a quote from his book Revolution about her last name.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));I mean in England we have a Queen for fuck’s sake. A Queen! We have to call her things like “Your Majesty” YOUR MAJESTY!...Posted by Russell Brand on Monday, July 20, 2015

Unsurprisingly, Brand's post sparked some fairly strong responses.

Some people questioned Brand's facts.

Others called him a hypocrite...

...or told him to say it to her majesty's face.

People also argued for the royal family's worth.

And some people took the opportunity to say how they felt about the Queen in general.

A few people did chip in to support Brand, though (and it's worth noting that despite the largely negative comments, his rant has still had around 90,000 likes in three days).

But for the most part, they were outnumbered by comments like this.

Ouch.
