The Russian government wants to send France a new police puppy.

On Friday, Elena Alekseeva of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Instagram that the pup, named Dobrynya, is being offered to France as a gesture of solidarity.

"He [Dobrynya] was named in honor of the Russian epic hero Dobrynya, which is the embodiment of strength, goodness, valor and selfless assistance," reads a translation of Alekseeva's Instagram post. "The puppy will be given to France in solidarity with the French people and the police in the fight against terrorism."

Russia's gift comes after a 7-year-old police dog named Diesel was killed during a police raid in a Paris suburb Wednesday, which targeted the planners of the Nov. 13 attack in Paris that killed 130 and left dozens injured.

A letter sent to Bernard Cazeneuve, France's Minister of Internal Affairs, by Russia's Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev asks that Dobrynya replace Diesel in the line of duty, according to a translation. A photo of the letter was posted to Instagram by Alekseeva.

"I assure you of the readiness of further cooperation in the fight against crime and terrorism," the translation says.
