Laurie Penny -- a British reporter known on Twitter as @PennyRed -- sent a tweet Tuesday saying she was saved by actor Ryan Gosling on Tuesday in New York City.

Penny says she looked the wrong way while crossing the street, at which point Gosling grabbed her before she could be struck by oncoming traffic.

According to Penny's tweets (below), Gosling yelled "hey, watch out!" and sadly not "hey, girl," per the "Hey Girl" meme that was first spotted in December 2008 on the F___ Yeah! Ryan Gosling Tumblr.

Here's Penny's take on the story:

I literally, LITERALLY just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling. Literally. That actually just happened.— Laurie Penny (@PennyRed) April 3, 2012

I was crossing 6th avenue in a new pink wig. Not looking the right way because I am from London. Ryan Gosling grabbed me away from a taxi.— Laurie Penny (@PennyRed) April 3, 2012

He did not say 'hey, girl.' He said 'hey, watch out!'— Laurie Penny (@PennyRed) April 3, 2012

Identity of no-idea-if-actually-a-manarchist-but-definitely-a-decent-sort Ryan Gosling confirmed by girl near me, who said 'you lucky bitch'— Laurie Penny (@PennyRed) April 3, 2012

I would also like to thank the several other, more anonymous New Yorkers who have saved me from cars since my stay here. #trafficfail— Laurie Penny (@PennyRed) April 4, 2012

And then, of course, the Internet took the story and ran with it:

EVERYBODY NEEDS TO CALM DOWN ABOUT RYAN GOSLING NOW.— Laurie Penny (@PennyRed) April 4, 2012
