Ryan McHenry, the creator of the wildly popular "Ryan Gosling won't eat his cereal" meme, has died of cancer. He was 27 years old.

McHenry, a Scottish citizen who rose to prominence with the Gosling cereal meme in 2013, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in July of that year.

McHenry told The Verge that he had started the meme while watching Drive and eating cereal. After about his eighth post on Vine, the meme blew up.

Gosling himself has addressed the meme several times, including in a recent interview with the BBC, during which the actor announced that he actually loves cereal. McHenry used a clip from the interview in another installation of the cereal meme on April 24.

McHenry had detailed his battle with cancer on his Vine account since his initial diagnosis. On Monday, Vine's company account broke the news of his death.

Your creativity brightened many lives. Thank you. You'll be missed #RIPRyanMcHenry https://t.co/po2qDpHmT4— Vine (@vine) May 3, 2015

A Reddit post sharing the news of McHenry's death encouraged users to rally to get Ryan Gosling to eat cereal in the Vine star's honor.
