Safari 3.1 Is Out

[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]Apple's web browser Safari has a new version out for both Mac and Windows: Safari 3.1, and you can download it here. It boasts blazing fast performance (especially for Javascript) and support for the latest standards (such as HTML latest audio and video HTML tags and CSS Animations.) Unfortunately, Apple doesn't think a changelog is very important (if you can find it, please let me know), and if you're not a regular user - which I'm not - it's hard to tell what the new version brings.

The last iteration of Safari, 3.0, was interesting because it was the first version of the browser that worked on Windows. Unfortunately, it was quite buggy - I was able to find several annoying bugs within minutes on usage, for example, clicking on certain bookmarks would cause a crash.

I'm happy to report that I wasn't able to find bugs in the new version, at least not in the limited time I've spent with Safari 3.1. As far as speed goes, I've tested out YouTube, Mashable, Yahoo, Google Maps, and I didn't get the impression that Safari is much faster. In certain situations these sites were opening faster in Safari, but it really depends on various factors, even on the same machine (for example, going back to a site I just visited was faster in Firefox). Some elements of certain pages were rendered differently than in Firefox, but I didn't see any major differences. All in all, at first glance Safari 3.1 looks much better than its predecessor; if we do find any big bugs, we'll let you know.
