Samsung will create a 100 billion won ($85.8 million) fund to aid employees with cancer and keep cancerous diseases out of its factories, according to a new report.

The fund will compensate workers and contractors who became sick while working at its factories, as well as their families, according to Reuters. It will also finance research to improve worker safety, Samsung said in a statement.

The news comes after negotiations between Samsung and its workers.

Around 200 workers were diagnosed with cancer after working at a Samsung factory, 70 of whom have died, according to South Korean activist group Sharps.

In May 2014, Samsung CEO Kwon Oh-hyun apologized for deaths and illnesses of workers at the company's factories. He then said Samsung "should have settled the issue earlier" and is planning "appropriate compensation" to those who were affected.
