Better late than never?

Samsung released the sequel to its bizarre Galaxy 11 ad Tuesday, two days after the World Cup finals ended.

The six-minute video picks up where the first left off: in the middle of a soccer game between Earth and an alien race called Hurakan to determine who gains control over the planet. Human players include Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. The team uses Samsung Galaxy technology to face off against the horned creatures, who have a penchant for flips and fancy kicks.

"We are thrilled with the remarkable levels of fan support we've seen over the past 10 months, and it was a truly exciting journey for Samsung to engage so closely with fans around the world. We hope to continue inspiring their passion for sports both on and off the field," Younghee Lee, Samsung's executive vice president of global marketing, IT & mobile communications, said in a statement.

The company didn't address why it waited until after the World Cup ended to release the video, nor did it respond to requests for an explanation.
