Samsung's not saying when this slim player will be for sale, but it did reveal that the 9.8mm-thin device will be available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities.

Handheld video aficionados will appreciate its 4-inch 800x480-pixel touchscreen, and it's packing a pretty good punch inside, too, with a 1GHz processor underneath to supply sufficient oomph for HD playback.

However, if Samsung is trying to beat the iPod touch in the sharpness department, it falls slightly short of Apple's 960x640-pixel "retina display."

Although Samsung hasn't announced pricing, we're thinking it'll undercut Apple's iPod touch just as the Samsung Galaxy Tab did the iPad. We'll know more next week when we bring you hands-on reports from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
