The consumer version of the Oculus Rift is finally coming -- next year.

But if you want to experience all the wonders of a near polished virtual reality experience right now, the Samsung Gear VR is your best option.

Samsung announced on Friday its Gear VR virtual reality headset that's compatible with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is now available for $199.99.

The Gear VR Innovator Edition for S6 works exactly the same way the version for the Galaxy Note 4 does. Pop either S6 smartphones into the headset and it'll automatically transport you into the world of virtual reality.

You control the Gear VR with a small touchpad on the right side of the headset.

It's not all the same, though. It looks like Samsung made some upgrades to the new Gear VR model.

The transparent cover that snapped over the front of the headset is gone. There's a charging port on the bottom, so you can charge up the phone while it's plugged into the Gear VR. And lastly, there's a fan on the left side to cool off the phone. (In my review of the Gear VR for the Note 4, I noted the smartphone got very warm during usage.)

The Gear VR also has access to Samsung's Milk VR, a curated app with different VR experiences ranging from sports to music.

The Gear VR for the Galaxy S6 is available for purchase on Samsung's website.
