We now have a much better idea of what Samsung's rumored virtual reality headset could look like, based on a leaked image that appeared in a new report.

The photo on The Verge appears to be a headset with focusable lenses; goggles seem to accept a separate smartphone to display images.

That matches reports that Mashable covered last month, which suggested the headset would use a smartphone’s processing power for positional tracking.

The Verge’s report also hints at an involvement with Facebook's Oculus Rift team. Earlier this year, reports suggested Samsung would compete with the Oculus headset. But now, it’s looking like the two have chosen to cooperate instead.

Industry watchers now believe Samsung could be trading its hardware expertise -- specifically high-resolution screens -- for VR software support from Oculus. iFixit’s latest Oculus Rift hardware teardown revealed that the device features Samsung's screen.

A debut is expected to come at Samsung’s Unpacked event on Sept. 3.
