BARCELONA –- Samsung is expanding its virtual reality headset with the Gear VR Innovator Edition that will work with the company's latest generation smartphones.

The South Korean company unveiled the VR headset ($199) at Mobile World Congress 2015 on Sunday, which was born out of a partnership with Oculus VR, the Facebook-owned virtual reality company. The headset is powered by Samsung smartphones, and now, it will work with the newly-announced Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Users can snap either device into the VR headset to view a fully immersive virtual reality experience.

While virtual reality headsets have a promising future for gaming, Samsung wants people to watch movies, TV shows and view photos using the device, too. The company is looking for developers to help build out the apps and content available on the device before placing it into the hands of consumers.

The Samsung Gear VR, which resembles a pair of goggles and comes with straps to comfortably secure the device to a wearer’s face, can be powered via its USB port to extend the battery life.
