One wandering samurai lost in time soon may have his story finished.

Cartoon Network has posted a five-second teaser for the return of Samurai Jack, saying that the early 2000s animated show will return to its Adult Swim late-night network next year.

The series, known for its beautiful art and sometimes minimalist dialog, was created by Genndy Tartakovsky. Earlier Cartoon Network viewers will definitely recognize his name as a director of Dexter's Laboratory and producer of The Powerpuff Girls; he went on to the acclaimed Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series. Recently, he also directed Hotel Transylvania and its sequel.

Samurai Jack focused on the rivalry between Jack and the evil wizard Aku. In the series premiere, Jack was about to strike the killing blow to finish Aku when he was thrown forward in time, banished to a universe where Aku had ruled for centuries.

The show ran for five seasons from 2001 to 2005, and won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming Less Than One Hour) in 2004. The series never received a proper conclusion, and fans never learned how the battle between Jack and Aku would end.

Tartakovsky has been asked by many fans for more Samurai Jack, but generally kept mum on the idea. In a 2012 Reddit AMA, he said he was working on a movie for the show that would have "a beginning and an end all in one story."

"It's hard to sell a 2D action oriented stylized movie in this marketplace," he wrote then.

Cartoon Network is keeping mum on what the series will contain; it's only released the teaser and the poster below.
