Nik Stauskas is no more. There is only "Sauce Castillo."

This is the story of how a TV closed-captioning glitch spawned the NBA's greatest nickname.

Stauskas, a Sacramento Kings rookie from Michigan averaging four points per game, hit a three-pointer against the 76ers on Tuesday night. That much is normal.

But it seems closed captioning on the play-by-play broadcast somehow translated his name to -- yes, indeed -- Sauce Castillo. The actual call said "Stauskas, hitting the three." The closed-captioning translated that to "Sauce Castillo hit the three."

A fan named Andrew Unterberger noticed it first:

My closed captioning just referred to Nik Stauskas as "Sauce Castillo" and I will never be able to not call him this again— Andrew Unterberger (@AUgetoffmygold) March 25, 2015

The NBA has seen many an epic nickname over the years, but nothing quite has the sizzle of Sauce Castillo.

Sauce Castillo!

Sauce Castillo!

Sauce Castillo!

After the TV glitch, a meme was born:

Sauce Castillo? Sounds like the anti-hero of Robert Rodriguez or Tarantino film! Teatro de Los Reyes! @NStauskas11 pic.twitter.com/XOtRwWh6Ms— Shera Starr Oliveria (@starr_rakh) March 26, 2015

Then, on Wednesday night, the Kings' official Twitter account even got in on the fun -- sharing this highlight from the player formerly known as Nick Stauskas:

Stauskas didn't quite get it at first, tweeting this on Wednesday:

Wait what does "Sauce Castillo" mean? Since when was that my nickname lol!! — Nik Stauskas (@NStauskas11) March 26, 2015

But the moniker looks like it could stick -- even Stauskas' teammates are calling the rookie Sauce Castillo now:

Hi Sauce Castilio, good game last night. Now make sure you bring some donuts to the bus. Thanks. @NStauskas11— Omri Casspi (@Casspi18) March 26, 2015

Me and my Rook, #SauceCastillo!! pic.twitter.com/hVWm4oLmQq— Jason Thompson (@jtthekid) March 26, 2015

To which Stauskas can only say:

Lol this Sauce Castillo thing escalated way too quickly!!!— Nik Stauskas (@NStauskas11) March 26, 2015

Just roll with it, Sauce.

Nik is in the past now. Viva Sauce Castillo!
