Typically, Halloween has been a holiday to celebrate the dead, filled with scary ghouls, zombies and ghosts. Trick-or-treaters and party-goers get dressed up and show off their most hair-raising costumes.

Horror movie marathons with the living dead leave us with nightmares for weeks. But the scariest culprit of them all is among the living -- clowns. Sure, they seem cute with their red noses, oversized shoes and ability to turn balloons into poodles. But underneath the face makeup lies a juggling terror whose boisterous laughter masks the screams of small children.
