Nope, we don't have the pictures to prove it, but emails in the Mashable inbox today say that Scoopt, the citizen journalism site based in Scotland, has been acquired by Getty Images.

Scoopt offered to pay citizens for cellphone/digital photos which were sold to newspapers, TV stations and magazines. The amount paid for the 20 month old company has not been disclosed. Getty supplies images to thousands of media outlets, so it's an obvious match.

We covered Scoopt back in 2005, noting that the company struggled to offload photos in the early days. In mid 2006, the company launched ScooptWords, which offers to sell your blog content for cash. They have competition, too, from the likes of SpyMedia, Cell Journalist and ScoopLive.
