Just last month we reported that Real Networks was looking at buying Scrabulous, the popular Scrabble clone app on Facebook. Now, without warning, it seems strategies may have changed as Real has introduced a fully authorized version of Scrabble all on their own to the popular social network.

One would think this would say something about the end of the whole Scrabulous ordeal, but according to Heather Timmons of the New York Times, so far the official version is available everywhere except the United States and Canada (though you have to be honest and tell them you are in those countries for it not to work). The reason for this is that Hasbro owns the rights in North America, Mattel controls the rights for the rest of the world, and they already have a deal in place with Electronic Arts for electronic versions of the popular game.
