Update 5/19: FOX has just released the extended trailer. Watch above.

Earlier: All hail Scream Queens.

We might still be months away from the premiere of Ryan Murphy's latest twisted tale, but Fox is wasting no time making us very excited about the show's debut.

In the first public trailer, which aired during the finale of American Idol, viewers get a chance to see a few of the show's most anticipated characters in action -- from Lea Michele's neckbrace-wearing nerd to the deliciously awful Emma Roberts.

Ariana Grande and Abigail Breslin also make quick appearances in the short trailer.

Earlier this week, Fox screened an extended (and slightly spoilerific) first look at the show for advertisers during the network's annual Upfront presentation in New York City, but they held back on showing footage to the public until Thursday with a slightly slimmed down version.

In the longer trailer, for example, a girl's head gets mowed off -- as in with a lawn mower.

More footage will no doubt roll out a little closer to the show's fall debut.
