Scribd's claim to fame is its ability to share documents in the same way you share YouTube clips. The document-sharing network is looking to make that even easier with the introduction of iPaper, which is a new Flash widget for sharing a wide varity of document formats, namely PDF files. The tool itself is far smaller than Adobe Reader, so it loads faster, and is easily embedded in other websites. iPaper is also fully integrated into Scribd's other social features, including emailing, and security for document protection.
While the new iPaper feature is another step in the right direction for Scribd, the company is taking things even further by releasing its API tools today as well. The new Scribd Platform allows web publishers to include the Scribd document-sharing tools in their own feature sets, including the new iPaper. As we've seen with FeVote and Box.net, Scribd has in fact been working on its third-party developer options for some time now, and is very much interested in bringing its tools to more developers out there.
