Quick Pitch: Scribnia is a web community where users can rate and discover bloggers, columnists, and other online authors.

Genius Idea: A blog's content is only as good as its authors. They are the ones doing the research, finding the content, talking to companies, and creating the articles that you either love or hate. Most people, in fact, have not only favorite online publications, but favorite authors and bloggers as well. Scribnia is a social community based on that premise. Its goal: to help you discover new writers based on analyzing user ratings and your preferences.

Scribnia is divided into publications and authors. Authors provides and overview of hundreds of different obscure and well-known content creators from all walks of life - technology, sports, pop culture, and more. The service analyzes each and every author based on the information it has, and those details aren't little things either.

Everyone is rated based on context ratings, which is their algorithmic system that rates people on sliding scales. Are they more mainstream or cutting edge? Do they write more for tech experts or the general public? These are questions people answer and review, and those responses transform into detailed context ratings.

Any blogger can claim a profile by adding a code snippet to their website. Once claimed, the author can use his or her profile to interact with interested readers. The other key section to Scribnia is publications, which as it sounds, profiles top blogs and websites based on their focus, biases, and more. It's quick and easy to figure out if a publication is suited to your tastes by comparing several on a sliding scale.

None of this would be possible without reviews from users, though. The regular user has a ton of things he or she can do on Scribnia, like following other users, adding reviews, choosing a favorite author, and more. And finally, the lynchpin to it all; once you have rated enough authors, you will start receiving recommended writers and publications tailored to your interests.

Scribnia is surprisingly detailed in its assessment of writers. It doesn't take long to write a review, but once that information is aggregated, it provides for a pretty spiffy and hopefully accurate assessment of a person's focus and talents. So if Scribnia has piqued your interest, we suggest signing up and writing some objective reviews of a few of our Mashable editors:
