David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson teased the upcoming X-Files revival by sharing a kiss on Wednesday night. Why did you ever leave us, Scully and Mulder?

Anderson joined Duchovny on stage at the release party in New York for his album Hell or High Water -- because of course David Duchovny made an album -- and planted one on him while the crowd freaked out.

"I can't make it rain. I can't make it shine," Duchovney sings in the album's titular track. "And I can't turn this shitstorm we're in into some rainbow sunshower of holy red wine."

This is clearly a reference to Season 6, Episode 8, "The Rain King," in which Scully and Mulder investigate a man who can make it rain at will. Be sure keep Duchovny's entire album handy, just in case you're abducted by aliens.

The kiss could be a tribute to the fans who have stuck by Scully and Mulder throughout the years, but our bet is on something more sinister, like an effort to ward off a murderous sea monster whose only weakness is true love. Seeing as no suspicious disappearances were reported at the show, it must have worked.
