Searchles is a social search/social bookmarking site we've covered a few times in the past. And like all social bookmarking sites that aren't called del.icio.us, they need to fight to stay relevant. Today they're launching the Push-me/Pull-me Widget, which allows visitors to your blog or webpage to bookmark, tag, share and comment on content without going to an external site. Push-me/Pull-me automatically pushes and pulls tags and comments back to the source page, they say, and recommends related content from your own site and elsewhere. The easiest way to understand this is to go the Searchles blog and see the options at the bottom of the first post.

Of course, readers need to be registered at Searchles to make use of it, and that might tip the balance between the benefit to the blogger and the benefit to Searchles. RawSugar, you'll remember, tried a similar idea before hitting the rocks. If these companies want bloggers to use their products, they need to focus almost entirely on benefiting the blogger, not on pushing as many people as possible to their own service.
